Chapter one~
Rowan ran through the dark forest, dodging arrows darting past her. She ran, her sword at her side, and cloak flowing wildly. How had she gotten in this mess? She ducked, just in time for an arrow barely missing her head, and ran on. She didn’t know who her enemies where, just that she needed to stay far away from them as possible. There must have been at least 20, or 25 of —whoever they were. An arrow whizzed past her, and she turned, seeing that her enemy had caught up with her. She had to think of something, and quick, before they caught her. She looked ahead and the trees beginning thin. No, she didn’t want to be in the open, she needed as much wood as possible. She turned left, dodging another arrow. She studied her surroundings. To her right, there was a trail that led to her camp, she didn’t need to lead her enemy to her camp, especially when they weren’t prepared, and she couldn’t betray them that way. She looked to her other side, and saw a ditch, big enough for her. She looked over her shoulder, not seeing anyone, and jumped into the whole. She heard the footsteps of the horses coming closer, and then disappearing slowly in the distance. Rowan poked her head out of the ditch, checking to see if there was anyone left, and waiting for her. All clear, she said to herself and climbed out of the whole. She ran towards her camp, if she could remember were it was… Running toward camp, it was quiet, and she was ready for something to happen, preparing herself with a surprise. She heard faint footsteps coming closer, and closer. She was running faster now, not looking behind. The footsteps came closer, and soon, to close. Then it stopped, and she stopped, looking around. Something in the wood behind her moved, and ran on, but no footsteps. Then, without warning, an arrow came, and soared through the air, getting closer, and she could here it traveling through the wind. She didn’t know where it was coming from, and tried to run, but didn’t know where to run, afraid that she might run right into the arrow. Seconds went by; when she heard footsteps of a horse come closer. Then something came up behind her and grabbed her. She tried, with all her might not to scream. And she started flailing, and whoever grabbed her, held her tighter. She hit the man on the horse. And the man nearly dropped her. After ridding fast enough to escape the arrows, the man on the horse stopped, and dropped Rowan to the ground. She stood up, and hit him again, and started to run, when he grabbed her again. “Wait,” he said, “don’t move! Rowan wait, it’s just me!” Rowan stopped throwing her fists around. “Will? Oh no, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hit you, you scared me!” she said surprised, and taking a deep breath in and out a few times. Will stood there, holding his face, where Rowan had hit him. “Wow.” He said, checking to see if it was bleeding. His eyes started to tear up. She smiled, “Well, what do you expect?” She shifted her sword that was at her side. He nodded, and gestured her back on the horse. They went on and traveled for a few minutes before anyone said anything. “Did you see me running through the forest?” Rowan said, holding tight to Will’s waist, so she wouldn’t fall. “No, I didn’t darling, how did you get into it anyway?” ~*~*~***~*~*~ She smiled, “I asked myself the same question. Well, John, Henry, and Robby—wait, where are they? I lost them when the enemy came into our small camp.” Will slowed down his horse, King, and laughed, “Don’t worry, they are all safe at camp, that’s how I found out that you were still missing, and that’s when I left. Go on.” “Oh, yes, well, like I said, we were all at the camp, just about done eating, when the enemy, whoever they were, came and attacked. Henry and Robert told me to run, and go away, and find help, but I could barely even help myself.” Will stopped King, and put a finger to his mouth. Rowan did just as he told her to. He listened for something, Rowan didn’t know what though. King shifted back and forth, as though someone else was in their presence. Rowan gripped her hand around her sword, her protection. She held tight to Will with the other hand. Will got off his horse, and looked around, also gripping his sword. “There, look,” he said, pointing to…something. Someone shot an arrow, and it flew past Rowan, triggering her to jump off the horse, and stand next to Will, pulling out her sword wildly. He did the same, and stood in position; they were back to back, looking, and waiting for something to fly out. A few things moved around behind the trees, and Will and Rowan saw a silhouette of something that was barrel shaped, like a mammoth man, dressed in armor that added to his barrel-like shape. “Who are you?” Will said, pointing the end of his sword at the man. The silhouette of the barrel shaped man became clearer. He came closer, and stopped, taking a good long look at both Will and Rowan. “Who are you and what do you want?” The man didn’t answer, he just put up his hand. In seconds, they were surrounded. They both stood in position, waiting, and preparing them to attack. “Ready my darling?” Will said with a cunning grin. Rowan smiled back at him, “Ready as ever my love.” Just then, they all attacked, there were about twenty or so of them, and all went for Rowan. Will went in front of her, and blocked a…thing from her. These ‘things’ that attacked, crouched over, like hunchbacks, and had small dagger like swords that killed instantly. They were like a being of some sorts, just smaller, and a green tone skin. Rowan couldn’t understand why they all dove for her. Unless maybe they knew something that she didn’t, or had forgotten. She swung her sword around, slashing at every creature that came towards her, and looked around for Will. She just barely missed a death swing, and raged on. “Will, are you ready?” She said, finally spotting him. “All ready!” he said, and they went back to back, slashing around, as though it were a dance, and as though they had prepared for it. They blocked every creature, and killed them, with a bit of effort to. These strange creatures kept on coming. The barrel shaped man just stood there, watching with a toothy smile. Rowan looked over her shoulder, and said in Will’s ear, “I’m ready.” He nodded and put his arms around hers and swung her over his back. They faced each other, and turned, fighting off the creatures that were close, then, repeated the move they had done just moments before. Will swung over Rowans back, then fought off the nearest creatures. Then Rowan over his, and she fought off the nearest creatures. They got to Will’s horse, King. “Jump on!” He said, helping her over his back, and boosting her on the horse. Will fought off the rest of the creatures, while Rowan fought the ones clawing up her cloak, and ripping at her back. “Will!” Rowan said, trying to grab away at the creatures that were tearing her back up. Will turned, and jumped on King. “Rowan! Hold on.” He turned, and knocked off the one on her back. She turned and grabbed onto Will’s waist, when an arrow hit her in her shoulder. She screamed in pain. The barrel shaped man’s toothy smile disappeared, and pointed his huge finger at the two disappearing people on a horse. “Get them!” He ordered the creatures. They went after them. King was to fast, but they still chased on. Will saw the gap ahead, and knew King could jump it, but the creatures couldn’t. He stopped, briefly, to let King take a breath. “William…” Rowan started to say. He didn’t notice, until a creature jumped on King, and made him start running. The creature fell off, and Will started to speed up. King jumped high, and made the jump. He slowed the horse down when he got to the other side, and watched as the green creatures tried to jump over, but just fell into the gap, into a mist of nothingness. Will smiled and turned to Rowan. “We m—” as Will turned around, he saw one of the creatures on his horse, raising a hand with a knife, but no Rowan. ~*~*~***~*~*~ Chapter two: Rowan struggled, ropes tied around her hands and feet, and a blindfold around her eyes. Surprisingly her sword was still at her side. A rope was tied to her waist, and was dragged along for what seemed like forever. Whoever, or whatever was dragging her, stepped on her arm, the one that the arrow was in, until it tore out of her arm while she was being dragged. She screamed, not that anyone would hear her. Someone came over and ripped at the blindfold off her head. She looked around her. Those green skin, arched back creatures surrounded her, staring, and pointing their weapons in her face. She didn’t dare make a move, or else. Then, the creatures started to part, and the barrel shaped man came in sight. He stared at her, as though searching for something. Rowan still had her cloak around her, and she was, for the most part, all together in one piece. The barrel shaped man smiled, “Bring her, and follow me.” Rowan looked at him…He knows I’m a girl?! ~*~*~***~*~*~ Sorry for the interruption in the middle of everything. But, I just wanted to add something, if you have seen the movie, or have read the books of, The Lord of the Rings, the little green arched backed creatures actually look like one of them from that series. They aren’t the same thing, actually they are a lot different, but, do have very few similarities. Well, anyways back to the story… ~*~*~***~*~*~ The creatures picked Rowan up, and dragged her through a maze of tents, until she came to an open, and one big tent. They slid her under the flap, and threw her to the floor. She winced, falling on her back, and sitting up quickly. She would be sure to have bruises by morning. “Well,” the barrel shaped man said, “what is a brave young girl like yourself doing here in the forest, and in the army, if you don’t mind me asking.” Rowan sat there, completely lost on why he had brought her. She looked at the man, who had stopped and stared back at her. His eyes seemed to be drilling a hole through her head. “Why? Why am I here, and what do you want from me?” Rowan didn’t know if she wanted to hear the answer. “Well, first of all answer my question, and I will answer yours.” She took a deep breath in. “My father was injured when in the military. I didn’t want him to go. I was scared for him. He had lost his arm, and they still asked him to come back.” Rowan thought back, pausing for a moment. “So I came, and they took me, they didn’t even notice my voice, or my wimpy ways.” It went quiet again, Rowan having a flashback. “Now, I answered your question, now answer mine, as you said.” The man took a breath in, and smiled again. Oh, how Rowan hated that smile, his rotten teeth showing, but she would have to ignore it. “Well, you know something of importance of ours that we would like back. You see, it is not just you who has it, but your kingdom.” There was a loud growl outside, Rowan jumped, startled by it, but the man ignored it and went on. “You have scrolls. The scrolls give me permission to pass the Corrin gate, your kingdom. My scrolls.” Rowan looked at the man with disgust, and recognition, but not recognition by looks, but by description. He was Gallagher, evil ruler of the western forest. He had royal scrolls of the ancient times that gave him permission to enter the Corrin Gate. He was the kings in the royal kingdom of Corrin. But when Lord Nolan had killed him, he had taken his permission papers, for if he didn’t, he would have been able to take over the kingdom. But he has been dead for almost fifteen years now, and no one has heard of him, or has seen clue of him ever since a brave knight came back and gave a report that he had slaughtered the evil man. But this could not be! Rowan took a deep breath in. “I know who you are!” She was raging inside, couldn’t help but shout out all of her questions. “But how could you! You were killed by Lord Nolan! He killed you! You died! Gallagher… how could you…I don’t understand!” Gallagher could only laugh. “One can try to kill a wizard, but the wizard might have strength to come back. You see, the scrolls hold more than just a permission to past the kingdom gates, in order to stay alive after Lord Nolan had killed me, he took those scrolls, and they hold my permission my powers, my life. I know it sounds impossible, but, they do.” Rowan wanted to run. She wouldn’t know where to run though. She wanted to yell for Will, call his name, but she wasn’t sure that he would hear her. Wait… “Where is Will?” Rowan practically screamed. “Oh, yes, him. I don’t really know what happened to him, but don’t worry your precious self. I made sure one of my Calgins went with him…he will take care of him.” Rowan couldn’t believe it! She didn’t want to. She was furious. She didn’t want to think the worst. Tears stung her eyes, and she looked down, so the man couldn’t see her crying. But it was too late, “Oh, you don’t have to cry, you will see him very soon. We will be taking care of you soon, hopefully.” She looked down; trying to stop the tears, but noticed…she still had her sword at her side! How stupid this man must be! She looked up, slowly, so that the man wouldn’t notice, until his back was turned. He smiled, and Rowan heard a loud growl outside. Gallagher walked to the tent opening, and his smile disappeared. “What—? Hey!” He ran out the tent door, and Rowan went to work, untying her ropes. She slid to the opening, and made sure no one was coming, she had to hurry, before it was too late. ~*~*~***~*~*~ The creature let his hand fall, with knife still in his hand, to plunge it into Will. Will dove off of King, and to the ground. The creature jumped after him. For such a small thing, it was incredibly strong. Will turned over, and went to crawl away; the creature grabbed his leg, and bit it. He screamed and knocked the Calgin over, sending him tumbling to the edge of the cliff. The Calgin stood up, and went towards Will again. The Calgin took out his dagger again, that fell when Will knocked him off. He came closer and closer to Will and until he was trapped, he couldn’t go anywhere. He was surrounded, backed up into the tree, and either the cliff, or the dagger for the choice of death. “Say good-bye!” the creature said. His voice sounded terrible, like he needed to cough something out and he spit when he got to the last part of “death”. The Calgin lunged toward him, and Will took out his sword, as the creature was in mid air. It fell onto the sword, and he fell to the ground. “Well, good-bye!” Will smiled, and jumped on King, who was standing there the whole time. “Let’s go and find Rowan.” ~*~*~***~*~*~ Rowan reached for her dagger in her boot, and started at her feet, just in case she needed to run. Then after she finished her feet she started at her wrists, until someone was coming. “Toshum! Go and keep your eye on the girl, quickly!” Rowan thought Toshum must have been one of the creatures. Now she had to hurry…she had to go and hide. She looked around, and finished untying her feet. Were to hide? She thought, and had no idea, there was little time. She looked out the tent flap; he was almost there, but he tripped over one of the ropes, and fell flat on his face. What a dope! More time! She looked and there was really no hiding spot. There was a shelf of maps and a few books. That’s it…she would move the shelf, it didn’t look to heavy, and making sure it was still in front of the cut she would make and crawl out. The only problem would be if there were other creatures on that side, she would have to really run for it. She ran to the shelf, and she was right, it was very light. She cut a whole and crawled out. Run…that was the only word in her mind right now, she was focused on that word to save herself. Rowan was running, until she saw a Calgin coming towards her, and with a bunch of his friends. She slowed down, and glanced both ways. She didn’t know where she was or where to go. But what did it matter? All she needed to do was get out of there, and then decide which way to go. She took out her sword, and ran towards the forest, her only hope of getting away. ~*~*~***~*~*~ Will went past the place they had been before….many times now; he seemed to have lost his way. When he finally got back on track, he was beginning to get worried. He followed the weird shaped footprints. They led far into the forest, but as he went on, the trees started to clear. Ahead, he could see an opening, and as he looked to the ground, there were more prints, and a print that looked like something, or someone, was dragged along here. He jumped off King, and ran to the clearing, taking a rock for cover. As he peeked behind the rock, what he saw, bewildered him. There were so many, weapons, tents, and troops. They were all getting ready for something, something much more than only a battle, or war, but strong enough to take total power over. He looked in total amazement. But, one thing, these weren’t the things he was looking for, these were humans, people, just like him. He couldn’t get caught, for this was his enemy, for definite, he could tell by the flag. It flowed slightly in the soft wind. The design was of a shield, with a key in the top right corner, a sword with vines around the handle, in the top left corner, and a lion in the bottom right corner. But, in the bottom left corner, it was blank, just a dark blue color, like the background of the flag. No one knew why that was. Next to the shield was a sword. Around the handle was a snake, it wrapped itself around the handle, and down the blade, to the very tip of it. Will heard something behind him, and turned. WACK! He was out, something, or someone had hit him, and he was out. banner made by will4ever Holy Chocolate Starfish!! |

hey everyone!!! here is more to the story!!! umm...yeah.....srry it took forever to update.....
so, yeah.....enjoy it...kinda....w/e....just read it! lol!!!! Open Wounds: Will decided he would stay that night, and figure out a plan. He sat on the ground, trying to think. But it was hard to think while in the enemy’s mists. Chapter 2: ~*~*~*~***~*~*~*~ Rowan looked over her shoulder, and saw the Calgin draw closer. She tripped over a root, and fell hard, and turned on her back. The Calgin held up his axe, and let out a scream. Then, stopped and froze. Rowan heard something whiz through the air, Great! At least I’m dieing the fun way! I’m going to be shot to death by arrows sticking out of my body, and tearing open my skin. This should be fun, right? Rowan let in a deep breath, and looked at the Calgin. She waited and waited, but it stood there with a look of pain and agony in its face. She didn’t know to run, or to laugh. But, when she looked behind the massive creature, there was an arrow in his own back. She looked over her shoulder towards the forest, and saw people on horses crowding around. She didn’t know whether to run or to stay. The Calgin, who stood for an awful long time with that look on his face, gave out a roar and fell face first. One of the men came up to Rowan. “Get on! Come on we are taking you out of here.” Rowan didn’t have time to think, so she jumped on. The man she was on the horse with didn’t look like anyone she knew. She looked at his armor, and realized she did know him, not personally, but, as an enemy. Rowan tried to jump off the horse, but there were to many arrows flying everywhere. She didn’t know if the man had noticed who she was, so she didn’t want to make a scene. All she could do was hold on, and wait to see where they would take her. Not long after, they reached the camp, and Rowan recognized the flag. As they entered the camp, she heard commotion at the other side. And, out of the clearing, being ushered by two men, and being half awake and beat, came Will. ~*~*~*~***~*~*~*~ Will! Rowan jumped off the horse, and ran towards Will, who obviously didn’t hear Rowan. “Let him go! He didn’t do anything!” She said. She was too happy that he was alive to realize that she just cost both their lives. “He did plenty! How do you know this man?” said the man that had given Rowan a ride here. It was silent. She didn’t know how to handle it. “Rowan, are you ok?” She shook her head. “Just fine, you?” He shook his head, “Same here. Ready to get out of here?” Rowan looked at him, and whispered, “You must be crazy! What do you have in mind?” Will stood up, despite his bruising, and looked at the man who was babbling his mouth off. The man stopped, and looked at Will. “Is there something you want?” the man said. He had a stern look and Will tried looking as stern as him. “Whether you believe us or not, I wasn’t spying.” The man shook his head. “Take them to the camps lock up tent!” and with that, Will, made his move. He shoved the men who were holding him down, and unsheathed his sword. Rowan had no idea what was going on. “What are you doing?!” she said as she watched Will knock down the men holding down Rowan. Rowan looked at him, then at the man, who had said was called Lord Arawn. She smiled and unsheathed her sword. He was oblivious as to what was going on until Rowan had knocked him off his horse. Arawn got up quickly, and tried to unsheathe his sword, but failed. He got on his knees as he watched Will simply defeat his men. “Please! Have mercy on my soul! Take what you want, but not my soul!” Arawn said in anguish and overwhelm. Rowan was suspicious, like something had been planned. She turned and looked at Will. “Will, run! Something isn’t right! Let’s go!” Will looked puzzled, but did as she said. As they started to run, others came out into the clearing, and surrounded Will and Rowan. ~*~*~*~***~*~*~*~ In the lock up tent, Rowan and Will sat, tied up against their own pole. Will looked at Rowan, and he grinned crookedly. Rowan smiled, “What?” she said, wanting to be closer to Will. “You know what?” Rowan shifted in her position. Being tied to a pole wasn’t as easy as everyone thought. “Well, this is going to sound stupid, but I was just so glad you were alive. I just lost it!” Rowan nodded, “So, that’s why you just started flailing at everyone?” Just then, someone opened the tent flap. It was Arawn, and he had the evil look on his face. “We want to know what you were doing in the enemies’ camp.” He said pointing to Rowan. She snickered, “Why? What will it help? Will it get me out of here? And even if I did tell you, you wouldn’t believe me.” Arawn looked frustrated, and couldn’t tolerate anymore. He started to yell. “TELL ME WHAT YOU WERE DOING!!!” Rowan jumped, a bit startled, but couldn’t help but smile at his pathetic ways. “Ok, I will tell you the truth. I was captured by the Calgins, and let me tell you, I never want to be in that position again! And how I got captured? We were on our way here, to deliver you this.” Rowan tried to reach in her pocket, but couldn’t. “Sir, would you be so kind as to get it for me?” Rowan said. She looked at Will and winked. As Arawn drew closer, Rowan kicked him in the groin, and he fell to the ground in pain. He stood up once more, and seemed to be slouching over, then slapped Rowan in the face. “She whimpered, but had survived much more pain. She looked at him and smiled, “Ouch! That hurt!” Then she kicked him in the face, and fell next to her, and was still. She poked him with her foot, and Will tried reaching for Arawn’s dagger. He finally got it, and cut his ropes and Rowans. They retrieved their swords, and cut a hole in the back of the tent. “Follow me!” He said in a whispered tone, and grabbed Rowan by her hand. “I will all the way.” She said, grabbing his. They made it to the forest, and just kept running. Rowans hair caressed her face as they ran, and Will’s touch made her feel safer than ever. They ran into the dark night, until they reached camp. Chapter 3: "William! Were have you been?" Will looked at his feet, while in the Generals tent. He wouldn't know how to answer the question without giving away that Rowan is a girl. If they were to find out. She will be killed. "Sir, I couldn't leave a good soldier behind. And besides, I was just not to far away, so i had to help." Adam was Rowans cover up name. "Very well then. I want you to serve in the stables today, then meet me here after you are done. I want you to bring Adam along with you." "Yes Sir!" Will replied. "And Will," General Ronan said, sounding stern, then turned soft, "You are a loyal soldier! Keep up the good work!" Will smiled, "I wil Sir!" Then walked out of the tent. Rowan was waiting outside of the tent. It was her turn for a lecture. "Have fun?" She said as Will walked out. Will nodded and walked to the stables to get the work finished. Rowan walked in, and saw General Ronan sitting at his desk. She tried to put on her manly voice, which she was quiet good at. "Sir! You requested to see me?" "Yes, Adam. I wanted to talk to you about something. You may close the tent flap." Rowan did as he said, and stood infront of the wooden desk. "Adam, I wanted to ask you something. As your captain and as your friend. Tell me the truth. Who are you? What is your real name?" Rowan looked at him in shock, and didn't know how to answer the question. If she told him the truth, she would be killed. But, maybe she could trust him with this. "Sir, " she said in her real voice, "My name is Rowan Gangallhea daughter of Ephraim Gangallhea. I came to take my fathers place in war because i was afraid he would lose his life. And i would rather lose my life than live to bear hearing my fathers life was taken." General Ronan loked stern, stood up, and walked towards Rowan. He took out his dagger, and walked towards Rowan. Then he stopped. "I had a daughter very much like you. Except she dreamed. She wanted to be a warrior. but she wasn't able to fulfill this because she became ill and died." Rowan looked down at her feet in dismay. "Sir I had no idea." "Rowan Gangellhea, daughter of Ephraim Gangallhea, you are a very brave women, and I ensure you, your secret is safe with me." Rowan smiled, "Thank you Sir!!!! You don't know how much that means to me! Rowan hugged him, then let go immediatly, "Sorry sir! Thank you so much!" "You are excused." He said, and with that, Rowan left to tell the news to Will. Rowan found Will in the stables, he was already hard at work, and didn't notice Rowan come in. She came up behind him, and he was startled. "What happened?"Will said. Rowan told him what had happened with her and General Ronan. Will was so enthralled with joy, he jumped up and gave Rowan a hug. Then let go, looking around to make sure no one saw. It was clear. Just the horses. This had been a wonderful end to a terrible day. banner made by will4ever Holy Chocolate Starfish!! |
