Le sommet de la carrière de Queen se situe entre 1973 et 1976

QUEEN (1973)

Queen est l'album éponyme du groupe Queen sortit le 6 juillet 1973.
L'album se vend mal à sa sortie. Cependant il demeure un très bon début pour le groupe.
L'album démarre par Keep Yourself Alive, un bon rock. L'intro est vraiment saisissante. Un court intermède entre le batteur Roger Taylor et le guitariste Brian May est bien trouvé. La chanson sort en single peu avant l'album sans grand succès. Une vidéo est tourné mais hélas elle ne paraîtra que durant les années suivantes.

Doing All Right est sans doute le titre le plus ancien de l'album. Tim Staffel qui a coécrit le morceau avec Brian May avait formé avec ce dernier et le batteur Roger Taylor le groupe Smile. Tim joué de la basse et chanté. Voyant que leur unique single se vend pas (Earth / Step On Me) Tim quitte le groupe qui commence à jouer avec Freddie Mercury. Smile devient Queen. Doin All Right est réenregistré par Queen sur l'album dans une version plus queenienne.

Great King Rat est sans doute l'un des titres majeurs de l'album. Avec ses couches de guitares, son côté rock flamenco, ses tambours qui galope comme des chevaux et une performance du tonerre, Great King Rat est un vrai chef d'oeuvre

Tout comme Great King Rat, My Fairy King est encore un voyage au coeur d'un monde magique dans lequel Freddie devient Mercury. Les falsetto de Roger sans magiques, le piano est fantastique. Bref on se croirait à Narnia!

The Night Comes Down est le titre le plus ancien à être enregistré par Queen. Il s'agit de la démo enregistré en 1971. Le groupe tentera de la réenregistrer durant les sessions de l'album mais ne seront pas ravi du résultat.
Une pure merveille que ce titre dont mon passage préféré est "Lucy was high and so was I dazzling " (Après nous parlé de monde féérique voici qu'on nous parle de mon personnage préféré qui est Lucy
)

J'adore aussi Queen, pour moi c'est un groupe qui à porté des valeurs d'humanité dans la musique et qui ont révolutionné leur temps. Leurs paroles sont tout simplement géniales. Je pense surtout aux paroles de Bohemian raposody

Passons ensuite à Queen II.

L'album démarre par Procession un instrumental des plus majestueux dans lequel Brian May fait sonner sa guitare comme un violoncelle.

Enchaînement sur Father To Son, rock progressif qui pendant plus de 6 minutes nous emmènent dans un univers différent. Brian May est l'auteur de la face A de l'album (sauf le dernier titre) dite face blanche.

Le morceau se termine alors que White Queen (As It Began) commence. Une ballade magnifique dans laquelle May fait sonner sa guitare comme une sitar avant un pont rock et de nouveau le calme.

La face noire est celle de Freddie Mercury qui montre ses talents de compositeur!

Ogre Battle : du vent qui souffle de plus en plus fort. En fait c'est un gong enregistré à l'envers. Un hard rock à l'envers qui se repositionne à l'endroit. Des choeurs monumentaux. Des hurlements à faire froid dans le dos. Bref on est dans le monde de Queen (leur Narnia à eux )! Le titre se termine comme il avait commencé mais à l'endroit et sans le vent.

The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke : alors que le gong de Ogre Battle résonne toujours, un tic tac se fait entendre très vite suivit par un clavecin endiablé qui nous mène vers une pop barroque géniale. Des notes de piano annoncent même le morceau suivant.

Ce morceau suivant est Nevermore une petite perle courte mais jolie qui repose avant le monstre qui va suivre.

The March Of The Black Queen. LE titre de l'album. Voici le chef d'oeuvre de cet album. Démarre lentement au piano avant une montée en crescendo des choeurs, puis chanson pop rock, instrumentation bien rock, cloche de Noël ( ) puis ballade, musique monarchique (avec le piano qui font des cabrioles de révérences) et enfin un petit air de cabaret/jazz bien trouvé. Le coup de coeur de l'album
